VERDICT

These headphones should be considered with respect to the rest of Bluedio’s line of headphones. Because the company already has several models intended for sports and outdoor use, it wouldn’t make too much sense to introduce more headphones that would compete for the same market. With the R+, they went after people who primarily listen to their music at home. In those cases, the weak noise isolation and substantial sound leakage are not really big issues. If you fit the description, the Bluedio R+ will serve you remarkably well.

The Bluedio R+ are the company’s most advanced headphones with their proprietary PPS8 8-driver technology that delivers deep, powerful sound without any loss of details. As with any premium product, the R+ also cost quite a bit more than most other headphones manufactured by Bluedio. This review will tell you whether the increased cost is justified by the same increase in the overall quality, or whether you can just stick with more affordable headphones and not miss on anything.

Design and Build Quality

When we first took the R+ into our hands, we immediately knew that these are not meant for portable use. Their bulky construction is heavy and makes the headphones feel very rugged and durable. The outer earcup case is made out of polished metal, which attracts a lot of fingerprints.

Both the headband and the earpads are made out of soft, artificial leather. Thankfully, sweating was never an issue. Using the headphones for multiple hours with a break is certainly not a problem.

The built-in microSD card slot gives you the option to use the headphones without a smartphone or tablet. All you have to do is insert a microSD card with your favorite music on it and press the play button. You can then use the integrated navigation buttons to skip songs, change volume, and pause the playback. We can really see us using this feature for audiobook listening. It would be great to put all our audiobooks on a single card and then just grab the headphones whenever we would feel like it.

Sound Quality

Even though the headphones are – at least at the first sight – closed, they actually let in and out as much sound as some open-back headphones do. Forget about using the Bluedio R+ in a library or next to your sleeping roommate. These are designed for attentive music listening in a quiet room.

Those who get over this obstacle will be rewarded with a highly detailed, analytical sound that can easily compete with some audiophile-grade headphones. All parts of the audio spectrum are rendered with maximum authenticity. We have found ourselves going back to familiar songs just to see if the R+ reveal any new details – they often really did.
